The Community Map
Gensler, Mapping
2013

The Community Map is the first step in getting to know and understand a neighborhood and visually documenting those findings in order to begin to establish relevant and useful connections. While interning at Gensler Architecture firm, one of my main tasks was to design and build their Community Mapping process.

For the design and build of the maps used Mapbox's TileMill to provide a vector-based, zoomable method to output the maps. The TileMill process was also employed to make the maps more portable to a web or mobile interface. I also used Adobe Illustrator to future customize the maps for print.

Hello there šŸ™‹šŸ¾ !

Iā€™m a multidisciplinary designer that walks the line between creative and coder. Consider me a practicing designer, cartographer, and speaker; who likes to write narrative and code. Currently working at Mapbox, I design maps, curate and query open source data, and build systems for outreach and engagement teaching others the secrets of excellent cartography. Working heavily in GeoJSON, Node.js, WebGL, and JSON, I also design beautiful thematic maps; considering color, iconography, hierarchy, and typography.

I am an MFA graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Seasoned in Interactive and Web Design in the Pacific Northwest and born and raised in Southwest Ohio.
